What do you want an SUV? Whether the answer is luxury, adventure or family readiness, you’ve got two choices in the 2017 Lane Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport editions. This review may help you identify the right model for your lifestyle and personality.

Discovery Sport powertrains are I-4 turbos. These smart units kicks out 240 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. Clearly ready for competitive deriving, the Sport comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This contributes to the Sport’s ability to deliver low-speed torque for off-road crawling. Going beyond high ground clearance, the suspension allows for flexible departure and approach angles. You can feel confident when fording water up to 23 inches. The 4×4 system is strengthened by a Terrain Response component.

Bigger, the 2017 Land Rover Discovery gets more power. A supercharged V6 puts 340 horsepower at your command. An eight-speed automatic transmission controls the rig’s power outlay. This capable SUV can tow up to 8,200 pounds. City fuel use is reduced by stop-start technology. 4×4 capability is enhanced by the Land Rover’s two-speed transfer case. A rock crawl mode regulates speed on the trail. Regular Terrain Response is strengthened by Terrain Response 2 advanced capability. Suspension tuning tightens the approach angles for even better maneuverability than the smaller Sport. Ground clearance is 8.6 inches at the front and 8.9 inches at the rear. To make the SUV more nimble, the Discovery has lost 1,000 pounds through careful use of lightweight components.

Like the Discovery, the Sport has a sleek, aerodynamic look with definite curb appeal. Model choices include the SE, HSE, and HSE Luxury models. Special customizations help you further personalize the design. Five people can sit comfortably in the spacious two-row cabin. Leather surfaces dress the seats. Full leather comes with the HSE edition. Amenities includes a multi-zone programmable thermostat, dual rows of heated seats, and ventilated front seats, just like you’ll find on certain Discovery models. Additional comforts, found on both models, include the standard panoramic roof and the gesture-activated power tailgate. Sport models come with an eight-inch touchscreen, but a 10.2-inch screen is also available.

Bigger, the Discovery comes with a third-row option, boosting seating from five to seven. In addition to the same three model choices as the Sport, there’s also the top-of-the-line First Edition. SE editions wear full leather and boast the larger touchscreen. On higher editions, you’ll find Windsor leather or grained leather upholstery. Surrounding you, the Meridian Sound system comes with 16 speakers.

All-weather capability is assured with 4×4 drivetrains. Both editions offer a long list of crash avoidance systems. Automatic braking backs up the forward collision warning. A lane assist backs up the lane departure watch. Adaptive cruise control uses queue assist to operate in slower traffic. Your parking worries can vanish with the help of Land Rover Park Assist. A 360-degree camera system takes the uncertainty out of slow maneuvers.

Exterior safety features include approach lights, rain-sensitive wipers, and power-fold, power-heated mirrors.
